About Clifford's Tower
This unusual quatrefoil shell keep on its high man-made motte dominates the museum quarter of the historic city of York.
Once part of a much larger enclosure this castle was the English monarch’s stronghold in the north of England. The modern steps in our view are in the same position as the original entrance.
The building is in the care of English Heritage.
