About Edinburgh Castle
The crags of an extinct volcano are topped by this medieval royal fortress and residence which dominates the skyline of the Scottish capital.
Mary, Queen of Scots gave birth to the Future King James the sixth of Scotland, First of England here in 1566. Our view is of the north-west side of the castle and features the medieval walls and the more recent Hospital building in the centre and the Ordinance Stores on the right.
The building is now in the care of Historic Scotland.
