About Dunstanborough Castle

Situated on a dramatic headland on the Northumberland coast this ruin was owned in the fourteenth century by Edward the Third’s son John of Gaunt, who features in Shakespeare’s Richard II.

 

Our view is from the south on the coastal footpath from the village of Craster. In the centre is the large gatehouse keep with the Lilburn Watchtower on the left.

 

The building is in the care of English Heritage.
