About Lincoln Castle

Lincoln Castle stands at the top of the hill in Lincoln close to the cathedral. William the Conqueror built the first castle here in 1068 on the site of the upper Roman town and there has been a castle here ever since, witnessing many battles and wars over the centuries.

 

Our view shows the castle from the east with the main gate and the Observatory Tower on its motte on the left, joined by the curtain wall with its wall walk.

 

The building is in the care of Lincolnshire County Council.
