About Warkworth Castle

This magnificent castle belongs to the Percy family, Dukes of Northumberland, and defends the neck of a great meander of the River Coquet in its gorge below.

Our view shows the spectacular late fourteenth century keep which provided luxury living quarters over three floors. The keep is in the form of a square with protruding towers built into each side and with their chamfered corners making up thirty-two outer wall angles. The whole is topped by a watchtower.

The building is in the care of English Heritage.
